Separating the components of a Mixture

In our surrounding we see different impure substances. These substances can be separated by the different process. But only heterogeneous mixture can be separated from the substances. In this we can use filtration process, handpicking process etc.

Obtaining Coloured component from Blue/Blank ink

It can be separated by the evaporation method.

Step 1. In this process we take a beaker fill with water on burner.

Step 2. Take a glass plate with ink and put it on beaker.

Step 3. Now start heating, we can see evaporation process taking place.

Step 4. On continue heating water of solution is evaporated.

Step 5. Finally we get solute on the glass plate.

Obtaining Cream from Milk

In this process the particles of solid in very small so it can not be separated by the process of filtration.

So we use another method that is centrifugation.

Step 1. Twisting rapidly to the bowl of milk.

Step 2. When this process is going on, the lighter particles going up and heavy particles goes down.

Step 3. We can separate this from milk.

Note 1. It can be used in labs, homes in washing machine.

Obtaining Oil from Oil Water solution

We know that oil and water can not be dissolved in each other, they form a separate layer of each other. Now we open a stopcock and out the lower layer of water and close the stopcock. We can see the oil in the funnel.

Note 2. It can be used in separating oil from water.

Obtaining Salt from Ammonium Chloride

We know that Ammonium chloride in directly changes its state from solid to gases.

Step 1. Take a mixture of ammonium chloride and salt

Step 2. Start heating this.

Step 3. We observe that the ammonium chloride changes in gases state and we get salt separated from solution.

Dye in Black ink
The in we are using our day today life is a solution of water and dye. In which dye is dissolved in water. The process of separation is called Chromatography. It can be defined in details in higher classes.

Note 3. It can used in separating colours in a dye.
It is also widely used in medical for removing drugs from blood.
