Concept of 'Is Matter Around Us Pure' (Part - 3)
Separation of two miscible liquids Acetone and Water
Step 1. Take a flash and join thermometer.
Step 2. Arrange all apparatus as shown in figure.
Step 3. Heat the mixture.
Step 4. Now acetone is vaporize condenses in the condenser
and collected in condenser outlet.
Step 5. Now water is left in flask.
This process is known as Distillation Process. It can be
used for less difference components. It can be used on components less than temperature
25 K .

Obtaining Gases from Air
Step 1. Air compressed by increasing pressure .
Step 2. Now it cools to get air in liquid state.
Step 3. Now liquid air is allowed to frictional distillation
column.
Step 4. Now we see gases separated at different height due
to difference in their boiling points.
Physical and Chemical changes
The property that can be observed and specified like as
color, boiling point, melting point, density etc is known as Physical changes.
If we get a new substance after change in chemical properties
of matter is known as Chemical changes.
Elements
It’s the basic form of matter that can not be broken out.
It can be divided into metals, non-metals and metalloids.
Properties of metal
1. Shiny
2. Grey or Yellow colour Like gold, silver.
3. Good conductor of Heat and Electricity.
4. Ductile in nature.
5. Malleable in nature.
6. Sonorous in nature.
Example Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron etc.
Properties of Non – metal
1. It is in multi colouring.
2. Bad conductor of Heat and Electricity.
3. Not Shiny
4.Not Malleable in
nature.
5. Not Sonorous in nature.
Example Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Chlorine etc
Compound
It is a substance in which two are more than two compound
combined chemically. It is combustible and colourless.
