Concept of 'Is Matter Around Us Pure' (Part - 1)
In our day today life we see ‘Pure’ written in the daily
product. The meaning of this word is all the constituent particles are in same chemical
nature. All the pure substance contain one type of substance of same chemical
nature.
Mixture
A mixture is constituted by two or more than two pure
substance.
Example :- Sugar dissolved in water, Salt dissolved in water
Solution
A solution is mixture of homogeneous two are more than two
substance. It is widely in our day today life. There are two part of solution.
science-ncert-solution |
1. Solvent :- The component of substance that dissolved
component in it, called Solvent. Like as water or other liquid.
2. Solute :- The component that dissolved in other component
is called Solute. Like as salt and sugar.
For Example :- Lemon and Salt dissolved in water, Lemon and
sugar dissolved in water.
Note :- The particles are very small so it can not be seen
by naked eyes. The path of light particle is not visible due to the small size
of particles. It can not be separated from the solution.
Concentration of a solution
1. Saturated :- The maximum amount of solute dissolved in
any Solution, called saturated solution. It is a stage after that no more
solute can be dissolved in solvent.
2. Unsaturated :- The amount of solute dissolved in any
solvent less than its saturation state, called unsaturated.
3. Concentration of a solution :- The amount of solute
dissolved in a given amount of solution, called concentration of a solution.
Concentration of a solution = Amount of solute / Amount of
solution
Mass by Mass
Mass by mass percentage of a solution = (mass of solute/mass of solution) * 100
Mass by Volume
Mass by volume percentage of a solution = ( mass of solute / volume of solution ) * 100

Numerical Problems
1. A solution contains 20g of salt in 160g of water. Calculate
the concentration in terms of mass by mass percentage.
Sol. Mass of solution = Mass of solute + Mass of solvent
= 20 +
160
= 180 g
Mass by mass percentage of a solution = (mass of solute /
mass of solution ) * 100
= ( 20 / 180 ) * 100
= 100 / 9
= 11.1 %
2. A solution contains 30g of salt in 240g of water. Calculate
the concentration in terms of mass by mass percentage.
Sol. Mass of solution = Mass of solute + Mass of solvent
= 30 + 240
= 270 g
Mass by mass percentage of a solution = (mass of solute /
mass of solution ) * 100
= ( 30 / 270 ) * 100
= 100 / 9
= 11.1 %
Suspension
It is a heterogeneous mixture in this the solute particles
are not dissolved in solution. So it can be seen by naked eyes. It scattered a
beam of light and makes a visible path when light beam falls on it. It can be separated
from process of filtration.
Colloidal Solution :- In this the particles are uniformly
spread throughout the solution. The size of the particles are very small and
undistributed so it looks like a homogeneous mixture but its not a homogeneous,
it’s a heterogeneous mixture. So it can be seen from naked eyes.
For example :- In a dark room, if a source of light falls
then we can see the particles easily by our naked eyes.
